Ashake Foundation

Meet Our Founder

At the heart of Ashake Foundation is Mayowa Adegbile—a humanitarian with over 12 years of dedicated service to widows, women, and children.

Her journey began in 2012, when she saw the struggles of widows and the growing number of children forced out of school. What started as a simple effort to provide food, clothing, and school supplies has grown into a full-fledged movement of hope and empowerment. Interestingly, Ashake Foundation’s earliest idea was born even earlier, out of Mayowa’s concern for malaria outbreaks among young mothers and children in Ijagemo, Lagos State.

Mayowa holds a degree in Educational Foundations and Counseling Psychology, with a minor in English Language, from Lagos State University. She has always stood out for her dedication and excellence—earning the award of Best Student Teacher during her teaching practice in 2009.

Her leadership and commitment to social change have earned her national and international recognition. In 2017, she was honored as one of the JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons of Nigeria in the Humanitarian and Voluntary Leadership category. She is also an alumna of the Lagos Business School Enterprise Development Centre and the LEAP Africa SIPA Program for Social Innovators.

In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Mayowa led Ashake Foundation to donate food relief, masks, and hand wash kits to more than 2,000 people across 14 communities in Abuja, an effort that earned her the Outstanding Citizen Award from a women’s faith-based group.

Beyond her professional achievements, Mayowa is a wife, mother, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and a strong voice for widows and vulnerable children. She continues to inspire as a role model for girls and an advocate for compulsory education for every child.
